There has been a lot of talk about camping recently with our daughters, my partner just bought his daughter a Kelty 4 person, entry level tent, 2 sleeping bags, and 2 sleep pads for about $240, from Rei.com. This is a very good price and value.

You can also rent cabins, rv's or airstream campers in some places.
Just in case, don't travel far for your first camping trip. You may find out after a night of sleeping on the ground that you are not cut out to be a camper. You may have gear trouble and find yourself without a tent. You may run out of food. The weather may change for the worse. Any number of things could happen to make you want to go home early. Be a smart camper, camp close to home for the first few trips.

 This golden fungus shows up each spring and drives wild food enthusiasts to hike miles in search of the strange-looking and exquisite-tasting treats.
Here’s the when, where and how for finding morels. While this guide includes a bunch of useful info, articles like this can’t possibly tell the whole story. Morels are mysterious organisms that humans don’t understand completely. Our inability to farm them says a lot about the enigmatic nature of morels, and shows why the best way to learn about the fungus is to get out in the field and look for it.
When to Find Morel MushroomsMorels can be found from March to September, depending on location. For the majority of country, the peak mushroom hunting months are April and May. In a Southern state like Mississippi, morels can be found as early as March. At higher elevations, like those found in Montana, morels might not start showing up until June.

The key to knowing when morels will grow is monitoring soil temperature. They will start to emerge when the soil hits 50 degrees, and disappear around the 60 degree mark. The window where they’re present in a given area can be as short as a few days or as long as a month.
A great indicator that morels are growing is the presence of dandelions. It’s been said many times that when you see the first yellow weeds of spring, morels won’t be far behind. Where I grew up in South Dakota, it seemed like there would be a 10-day lag between dandelions showing up and the first morels popping.

In other parts of the country, experienced mushroom hunters pay attention to trees. Some say that the best morel hunting happens when budding oak leaves reach the “size of mouse ears.”

Drone Footage Shows Thousands of Nesting Sea Turtles

Counting via the old method involved marking the turtles’ shells with stripes of temporary, non-toxic white paint when they came ashore so the researchers could tell the ones who already nested apart from those which had yet to lay eggs. Researchers then counted the thousands of painted and unpainted turtles from boats to estimate their numbers. The drone and underwater video-based counting methods involved analyzing the footage frame by frame in the lab to count the turtles, according to a statement.
After comparing the three methods, researchers found the drone footage was the most efficient and effective counting method, according to the statement. The extraordinary footage, captured in December 2019, provided an estimate of up to 64,000 green turtles around the island, 1.73 times the figure produced by previous estimates, CNN reports.
The team attributed the underestimates of the old method to the fact that it’s easier for observers to spot the marked turtles than those without the white stripes, creating a bias in the count. Researchers say the results will be applied retroactively to adjust prior population estimates as well as to direct future conservation of the turtles.
“This research is of prime importance to the understanding and management of the vulnerable green turtle population,” says lead researcher Andrew Dunstan of the Queensland Department of Environment and Science in the statement. “In the future, we will be able to automate these counts from video footage using artificial intelligence so the computer does the counting for us.”
